The Quest Newsletter

A weekly newsletter to help you live better

Read time: 3 minutes

Greetings my friends. Happy Friday.

Welcome to the second edition of the Quest Newsletter.

Because we have a lot of first time readers, I will provide another brief summary of the purpose of this newsletter.

As I previously shared, one definition of Quest is: “An expedition undertaken to attain a specific goal.”

That’s our life. We are ALL on a quest. In order to be fulfilled, we need meaningful pursuits. We need to be learning, moving, and growing. It’s how we’re wired.

The purpose of this newsletter is to help improve your journey as you navigate YOUR quest.

Each week will feature the following:

Useful Ideas
Episode
Story

I’m glad to have you along for the ride and hope this newsletter adds value to your life.

Let’s begin…

Quote

Life’s tragedy is that we get old too soon and wise too late.”

Benjamin Franklin

Thanks Ben.

So how can we prevent this from happening?

Get old later and get wise sooner.

How do you do that?

Delay Aging
• Diet
• Sleep
• Exercise

Get Wise Sooner
• Read
• Direct Experience
• Learn from Others

Useful Ideas From Me

I.

Simple mindset shifts:

• I’m not lost, I’m exploring
• I’m not failing, I’m learning
• I’m not alone, I’m enjoying my own company

A negative mindset sees the challenge in every opportunity.

A positive mindset sees the opportunity in every challenge.

Change your mindset, change your life.

II.

If you focus on regret for the past, you’ll live with shame.

If you focus on fear of the future, you’ll live with anxiety.

If you focus on gratitude in the present, you’ll live with joy.

Your choice.

III.

Some people mock “generic” health advice on diet, sleep, and exercise.

Some stats on people:
• 42% are obese
• 30% are sleep deprived
• 76% aren’t getting enough exercise

Clearly, we haven’t mastered the basics.

Don’t confuse familiarity with advice with following it.

Episode

How to Change Your Life by Changing Your Brain
Dr. Daniel Amen on Jay Shetty’s podcast, On Purpose.

Listen to it here

A lot of great ideas here on how to improve your mood.

Two of my favorite thoughts:

1. Don’t dump dopamine, drip it.
2. You need good hardware (brain) to run your software (mind).

If you like this one, go check out the other On Purpose episodes with Dr. Amen. They’re all great.

Nice thread here from Sahil Bloom on the impact of back to back meetings.

In short, back to back meetings create stress. Short breaks between meetings prevent stress.

BONUS: Questions

3 questions to start your morning with:

1. What am I grateful for?
2. What am I excited about?
3. What would make today a success?

Gratitude primes your brain to look for the good.

Getting excited fills you with energy & momentum.

Defining success provides clarity & focus.
